RCB Dominate KKR in Season Opener with a Resounding 7-Wicket Win

The stage was set, the lights were bright, and the buzz around Eden Gardens was electrifying as Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) locked horns in the opening match of IPL 2025. Fans packed the stands, hoping for fireworks, and the match certainly delivered—though not in the way KKR faithful had hoped.

KKR’s Dream Start Turns into a Nightmare

Winning the toss and opting to bat first, KKR had an explosive start. Skipper Ajinkya Rahane (56 off 31) looked in sublime touch, smashing boundaries with finesse, while Sunil Narine (44 off 26) brought his usual fearless hitting. By the 10th over, KKR were cruising at 107/2, and a total of 200+ looked inevitable.

But then came the turning point—Krunal Pandya. The left-arm all-rounder triggered a collapse, removing key batters at crucial moments, finishing with 3/29 in 4 overs. His spell, combined with Josh Hazlewood’s tight bowling (2/22), completely derailed KKR. What once seemed like a monstrous total ended at a slightly underwhelming 174/8.

Salt and Kohli Tear Apart KKR’s Bowling
If KKR fans were hoping for a fightback with the ball, Phil Salt and Virat Kohli had other ideas. Making his RCB debut, Salt came out all guns blazing, smashing a blistering 56 off just 31 balls. He set the tone right from ball one, punishing anything short or wide.

And then there was King Kohli. In his 400th T20 match, he played a masterclass in controlled aggression, remaining unbeaten on 59 off 36 balls. With the Powerplay yielding 80/0, RCB had all but sealed the deal early.

Even though KKR managed to slow things down for a few overs, Rajat Patidar (34 off 16) added the finishing touches, ensuring RCB chased down the target in just 16.2 overs with 7 wickets to spare.

A Statement Victory for RCB

This win was not just about two points—it was a statement. RCB, under their new leadership, showed an aggressive and fearless approach that could make them serious contenders this season. Krunal Pandya’s all-round performance earned him the Player of the Match award, and RCB’s top order sent a warning to the rest of the league.

For KKR, it’s back to the drawing board. Their explosive start with the bat was overshadowed by a middle-order collapse, and their bowling lacked the penetration needed in the Powerplay.

The IPL 2025 season has started with a bang, and if this match was any indication, we are in for an absolute thriller of a tournament!

Final Scores:

KKR: 174/8 (20 overs)
RCB: 177/3 (16.2 overs)

RCB won by 7 wickets.
